Appearance and notifications
Tune how the app looks and what it tells you about. These live under Settings, split across an Appearance section and a Notifications section in the settings sidebar.
Quick overview
- Set your theme and density in the Appearance section.
- Turn individual notification categories on or off in the Notifications section.
- Manage the running feed of what you have already been notified about from the notification bell in the top bar.
Appearance
The Appearance section holds two controls, each a small segmented button group. There is no Save button: your choice applies instantly and is written to your account in the background.
| Setting | Options | Default | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Theme | System, Light, Dark | Dark | Shown as three icon buttons (a monitor, a sun, a moon). "System" matches your operating system's light or dark setting at the moment you choose it, or when a page loads. It does not switch instantly if you change your OS theme while a tab stays open; reload to pick up the change. |
| Density | Comfortable, Compact | Comfortable | Controls how tightly lists and cards are spaced across the workspace, for fitting more on screen at once. |
Theme and density apply the moment you change them and are saved to your account, so switching to a different device keeps the same look.
Local first, then synced
The theme and density a page shows on its very first paint come from this browser's own local storage, so there is no flash of the wrong theme while your account loads. If your saved account preference differs (for example, you changed it on another device), it takes over moments later once your settings finish loading.
Saving happens quietly
Appearance and notification changes save in the background as soon as you click them; there is no separate Save button and no confirmation toast. If you are offline when you change a setting, the display updates on this device right away, but the change may not have reached your account until you are back online and revisit this page.
There is no interface-language switch today
The workspace ships in a single language, so the Appearance section does not include a language toggle. This is deliberate rather than missing: an earlier toggle was removed because it stored a value nothing could act on. It will return once the interface itself can be translated.
Looking for stock photo, video, or audio provider keys, or a local folder connection? Those live on neighboring settings pages; see Storage and integrations.
Notifications
Each toggle controls one category of things you can be notified about. Like the Appearance controls, they save the instant you flip them, with no Save button.
| Notification | Detail | Default | Can be turned off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Comments | Someone comments on one of your designs | On | Yes |
| Shares | Someone shares something with you | On | Yes |
| Export complete | A long-running export finishes | On | Yes |
| Product news | Occasional product updates and tips | Off | Yes |
| Security and account alerts | A sign-in from a device you have not used before, trash auto-cleanup notices, and similar protective events | On | No, always on |
Turning a category off stops new notifications of that kind from being created going forward; it does not retroactively remove ones you already received.
The notification bell
A bell icon in the top bar keeps a running feed of everything you have been notified about, separate from the toggles above, which only control what gets added to it.
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Live updates | New notifications stream in over a live connection while the tab is open; it reconnects automatically if the connection drops. |
| Tabs | All, or Unread, with a live count next to Unread. |
| Per item | Click a notification to mark it read and open whatever it links to. Hover an item for its own mark read/unread and delete controls. |
| Mark all read | One button marks every visible notification read in a single action. |
| Full history | A "see all" link opens a dedicated notifications page with the same controls, loading 50 at a time as you scroll. |
The bell shows an unread count badge once anything is unread, capped at "9+" once you cross 9. The feed refetches whenever you open it, so it is never far out of date even without the live connection.
No bulk delete
Notifications are removed one at a time; there is no "clear all" action. Marking everything read with the bulk button does not delete anything, it only clears the unread badge.
How to use it
Switch the interface to dark mode
- Open Settings and choose Appearance.
- In the Theme control, click the moon button (Dark). The change is instant, and because it is saved to your account the same dark look follows you to your other devices.
- Prefer to follow your computer? Click the monitor button (System) instead, and reload a page after changing your OS theme so the workspace picks it up.
Turn off a notification you do not want
- Open Settings and choose Notifications.
- Find the category you are tired of (for example Product news, which is off by default anyway, or Comments) and flip its switch off.
- It saves immediately. You keep receiving the categories you left on, and any notifications you already got stay in the bell.
Fit more on screen with compact density
- Open Settings, then Appearance.
- In the Density control, choose Compact. Lists and cards across the workspace tighten up so more fits at once. Switch back to Comfortable any time.
Clear the unread badge on the bell
- Click the bell icon in the top bar.
- Press Mark all read. The unread count disappears, though the notifications themselves stay in the feed for reference.
- To remove one for good, hover it and use its delete control; there is no bulk delete.
Common tasks
- Match your OS theme: Appearance, Theme, the monitor (System) button.
- Stop comment notifications: Notifications, turn off Comments.
- Read older notifications: bell, see all, then scroll to load more.
- Undo a "mark read": hover the item in the bell and use its mark unread control.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What is happening and what to do |
|---|---|
| A setting did not stick | There is no Save button; changes save in the background. If you were offline, the change shows on this device but may not have reached your account. Reopen the page once you are back online. |
| The page briefly flashed the wrong theme | Expected on a fresh load: the first paint uses this browser's local copy, then your account preference takes over a moment later if it differs. |
| You cannot find a language option | The interface is one language today and there is no language switch in Appearance. See the note above. |
| You cannot turn off security alerts | Security and account alerts are always on by design, so you never miss a new-device sign-in or a trash cleanup notice. |
| The bell has no "clear all" | Notifications are deleted one at a time. "Mark all read" only clears the unread badge, it does not remove them. |
Keep the essentials on
Security and account alerts stay on for your protection. Tune everything else to taste.
Your first notification is a welcome note
New accounts get one notification automatically, a short welcome message pointing back at settings, so the bell is never completely empty on your first visit.
Notifications and community activity
Notifications about people, not just your own account, such as someone following you or accepting a connection request, are generated from your community profile rather than from these toggles, and always show up in the same bell.
