Text and typography

Add text from quick-add cards, a style gallery, or the text tool, then format it with a searchable font library and the full set of typography controls in the properties panel.

Quick overview

  1. Click Add a text box, or a quick-add card for a heading, subheading, or body line, in the left panel.
  2. Or press T (the text tool) and click anywhere on the canvas to place a new text box, or click existing text to edit it.
  3. Double-click any text object to edit its content inline; press Esc to finish.
  4. Use the properties panel to set font, weight, size, style, alignment, letter spacing, line height, padding, fill, and opacity.
  5. Jump-start a look with a text style preset or a font pairing, both in the Text panel.

Each quick-add box is fitted to its placeholder text on insert, so it starts snug rather than a fixed-width block, and stays manually resizable from the corner handles. Add a text box drops you straight into inline editing with the placeholder selected, so you can type over it immediately.

A gallery of 20 designed presets, each a small stack of styled lines (a label plus a headline, for example), grouped into four categories:

CategoryFeel
BoldHeavy display type for statements and headlines
ElegantSerif and italic pairings for a refined tone
ScriptHandwritten and display script accents
MinimalLight weights and generous letter spacing

Search by keyword, or filter by category. The gallery shows 8 presets at a time; Load more reveals the rest. Clicking a preset inserts a grouped set of text lines; double-click the group to ungroup and edit each line on its own.

Font pairings

Eight curated heading-and-body combinations, each inserted as an editable heading over a body line:

Dynamic fields

Two smart fields insert live text that reflects the current design instead of typed content:

FieldInserts
DateToday's date, written out in full
Page numberThe current page's position, starting at 1

Both come in as ordinary text objects you can restyle freely. The value is captured at the moment you insert the field, so re-insert it if the date or the page changes. They pair well with Bulk builder when you are generating many personalized pages at once.

Formatting controls

Available in the properties panel whenever a text object is selected:

PropertyRange / optionsNotes
Font familySearchable listSearches built-in families and any fonts you have uploaded
Weight100-900Only the weights the selected family actually supports appear
Size6-120 px
StyleBold, italicIndependent toggles
AlignmentLeft, center, rightAligns the text lines inside the box
Letter spacing-5 to 30
Line height0.5 to 3A multiplier of the font size; default 1.16
Padding0-200 pxSpace kept around the text inside its bounding box
FillNone, solid, gradient, image
Opacity0-100%

Changing Size on a text box refits its width to the new content, so the frame does not stay wider than the text.

Effects

Stroke, drop shadow, and letter-case transforms live in their own section. See Text effects.

Step by step

Build a heading and body block

  1. Open the Text panel (Alt+2).
  2. Click Add a heading. A "Heading" box in Unbounded, 28 px bold, drops onto the center of the canvas.
  3. Click Add a little bit of body text. A "Body text" box in DM Sans, 14 px, is added.
  4. Double-click each box to replace the placeholder, then press Esc.
  5. Drag the body box directly beneath the heading to stack them.
  6. Fine-tune the heading in the properties panel: bump Size, pick a heavier Weight, and pull Letter (letter spacing) tighter for a display look. Use the Style section alignment buttons to left, center, or right align the text inside each box.

Apply a font pairing, then fine-tune it

  1. In the Text panel, open Font pairings and pick a combination, for example Editorial (Playfair Display over DM Sans).
  2. The pairing drops in as a grouped heading and body line. Double-click the group to ungroup.
  3. Select the heading line. In the properties panel set Weight to 700 and lower Letter toward -1 for a tighter headline.
  4. Select the body line and raise Line (line height) to around 1.4 so multi-line copy breathes.
  5. Retype both placeholders with your own words.

Insert a dynamic date or page number

  1. Open the Text panel and click into Dynamic fields.
  2. Click Date to drop today's date written out in full, or Page number for the current page's position.
  3. The field arrives as an ordinary text box, so restyle its font, size, and color like any other text.

Tune line height and letter spacing for a poster headline

  1. Add a heading and type two or three short lines.
  2. Select it and open the properties panel Spacing section.
  3. Set Line (line height) low, around 0.9 to 1.0, so the stacked lines sit tight like a poster.
  4. Set Letter slightly negative to pull the characters together.
  5. Raise Size toward the 120 px cap for maximum impact; to go larger, drag a corner handle to scale the box past the numeric limit.

Troubleshooting

A weight looks identical to another

The Weight menu lists 100 to 900, but a font only renders the weights it actually ships. If Black (900) looks like Bold (700), that family has no black cut and the browser falls back to the nearest weight. Switch to a family with more weights, or apply a heavier display font.

Size stops at 120

The Size field caps at 120 px. For a bigger headline, set 120, then drag a corner handle to scale the box up past the numeric limit.

Edits change the whole group

Text style presets and font pairings insert as a group. Typography edits apply to every line at once until you double-click to ungroup and select a single line.

The first heading may pause

"Add a heading" uses Unbounded, a display font used nowhere else. On a cold load it downloads before the box is created, so the very first heading can take a moment to appear with the correct metrics.

Tips

Search instead of scrolling

Type in the font search rather than scrolling the list. It matches your own uploaded fonts too, not just the built-in library.

Presets are starting points, not final answers

Every text style and font pairing inserts fully editable objects. Double-click to ungroup and adjust individual lines once you have picked a direction.
